About Me: I’m a 14-time Sport Karate Heavyweight Sparring World Champion, and the fighting coach for Team Paul Mitchell Karate and Chief Instructor at B.I.T.W. Martial Arts Academy. In addition to teaching karate competitors, I also train law enforcement officers – I am the Lead Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Oakland Police Department, and a 19-year veteran of the department.
I’m also the biggest Kevin Thompson fan in the world!
Fav. Century Product: P2 Premium Sparring gear
Fun Facts: In 2005 I suffered a career-threatening neck injury. After successful surgery, I returned a year later to competition and won the U.S. Open overall Sparring Grand Championship (televised on ESPN 2).
Started Martial Arts Because: My dad, Prof. Tommy Gilbert, was my hero and he was involved in martial arts. I wanted to be just like him.
